WAA 600 Shoot

The WAA “Novice 600” shoot is an ongoing series of events run by the Wellington Archery Association. These are not really competitions as such. Instead, each archer challenges themselves against a personal goal.

Each archer chooses their own target face - either 122cm, or 80cm, or 60cm triple spot, or 40cm triple spot, or 20cm triple spot. Shooters fire 90 arrows at 30 metres. A score of 600 or greater is required in order to pass the grade.

A ribbon is awarded, the color depending on the size of the target face chosen. White for 122cm, Blue for 80cm, Red for 60cm, Gold for 40cm. A badge is awarded with the first ribbon.

Archers may shoot the target faces in any sequence. Faces may be repeated, and additional ribbons of the same color granted. Note that the WAA “600” shoots are not ANZ registered, and scores are not eligible for ANZ awards.

After completing the “regular” faces, compound and extremely confident recurve archers looking for a challenge may try the 20cm and 10cm faces. These are non-standard faces which WAA has had printed specifically for this purpose. Blue bars will be awarded for these faces. As at July 2010 only one archer has scored 600 on a 20cm face. Nobody has succeeded on the 10cm face.

Several “600” shoots are scheduled each year at different locations in the WAA region. Check the Events page for the upcoming calendar.
