Manawatu Venues

Riverdale Scout Hall

The Riverdale Scout Hall is our club's home ground. We have a full-sized outdoor range right next door for when the weather is fine. If the weather is terrible, we can at least practice technique indoors. The Scout Hall is also usually where we hold our Beginners sessions.

The Scout Hall is down behind the race track. For full details, see Google Maps.

Barber Hall

The Barber Hall offers us a warm, well-lit, 18m indoor shooting range for practice. It's one of our preferred indoor venues, though we sometimes get bumped from there if somebody else comes along and waves more money at them than we can.

Barber Hall is attached to Stadium Manawatu in the Palmerston North CBD. To find the front door use Google Maps to find Waldegrave Street. Enter the Waldegrave Street carpark. The hall entrance is the left hand of the two large doors at the center of the carpark.

Manfield Stadium

The Manfield Stadium is a large horse arena by Manfield Raceway in Fielding. It's a huge space with plenty of room for archery. In fact, as you can see, it's so large it could hold most of our “outdoor” shoots.

The stadium was the site of the 2009 WAA Regional Champs, and was subsequently home to the Lower North Island division of the 2009 National Champs.

To find the stadium, use Google Maps. Enter the stadium grounds through the wrought iron gates off South Street. Heading up the driveway, the stadium is off a side-driveway before you reach the actual racetrack.

Pohangina Valley

The Manawatu Archery Club Christmas Clout 2009 shoot was held in a paddock in the Pohangina Valley.

The address was: 1427a Pohangina Road

Here are the driving instructions:

* Drive to Ashhurst, go right through the town and enter the Pohangina Valley. Drive for 5-6 minutes until you reach the Waterford pub.

* Keep driving past the Waterford pub. Do not stop for beer. Just drive straight ahead.

* Shortly after the Waterford, IGNORE the right hand turn that would take you across the bridge. Just drive straight ahead.

* Keep driving for another 5-6 minutes until you reach Pohangina Village, IGNORE the left hand turn which is the only intersection in the village. Just drive straight ahead.

* At the end of the village, the road rises up and curves around a hill just as you leave the 70 kph zone. At the top of that curve the road is flat again. On your left at the top of that rise is the driveway for 1427.

* House 1427A is now visible at the top of the hill, it is a largish stone house on the skyline.
